Quick take
The Profitec Pro 500 PID is a heat-exchanger espresso machine with an E61 group and a PID on the steam boiler, and the owner reports here are almost all about problems: brew temperature that runs low or inconsistent, and faults ranging from a slow-starting pump to a machine that broke down twice. One owner who moved on still speaks warmly of it. With five reports, this is an early warning list rather than a verdict.

Practical pick with a category-specific lean
The one positive note is that an owner who moved on still calls it an amazing and simple machine.

Profitec 500 Pro PID (2022) - PID Reset Issues Alright y'all, I need some help from some experts. I have a Profitec 500 Pro PID - 2022 model. I noticed an issue where the PID resets any time the hot water valve is used, when the pump comes on and solenoid refill valve activates. I have tested literally every component imagineable on this through either disconnecting components and the running the hot water valve to see if the issue persists, or through resistance/continuity testing. I bought a new pump and compu
I came from a lovely Profitec 500 but I got too tired of the inconsistency of the temperature of the HX. Still an amazing and simple machine
I’ve owned the machine for about 2 months now … I’ve noticed that my idling and brew water temperatures barely crawl past **88°C (190°F)**. This is happening even though I have the steam boiler PID cranked to its absolute maximum setting of **128°C (262°F)**.
Trade in /new machine? [$2000~2500CAD] I currently own a Profitec 500 and it is its second time breaking down, it can't reach a brewing pressure even after waiting for an hour plus. I make around 3\~4 shots of espresso every morning, I don't think I make enough lattes to justify the price of another heat exchanger/ double boiler. Should I trade it in for a Bezzera Unica Espresso Machine w/ PID or am I better off fixing it? Profitec 500 Bezzera Unica Espresso Machine w/ PID Profitec 500 Bezzera Unica Espresso M
My 4 year old Pro 500 often delays of 3-8 seconds after the lever is activated before the pump comes on. FYI - this is after the machine has reached temperature.

The report here describes the symptom without a fix: about 88 °C at the group with the steam PID at maximum, on a machine owned for two months. On a heat exchanger, brew temperature follows the steam boiler, so a group that stays this cool even at maximum is worth raising with the seller.
On one four-year-old unit, the pump often starts 3-8 seconds after the lever, even with the machine at temperature. The post asks for help and does not report a cause or fix.
One 2022 PID model's controller resets whenever the hot-water valve runs, when the pump starts and the refill solenoid opens. Its owner tested components one by one and replaced the pump without finding the cause, so it is a fault to have diagnosed rather than a setting to change.
An owner facing a second breakdown, making three or four straight espressos each morning and few lattes, was weighing a trade-in for a Bezzera Unica with PID against fixing it. If you rarely steam milk, a simpler machine may cover your use; the report does not say which they chose.
