Best For
- You will buy or already own a proper espresso grinder to pair with it.
- You are comfortable reprogramming shot volumes and upgrading parts over time.
- You want an easily repaired machine you can keep for years.
Quick take
The De'Longhi Dedica is an entry espresso machine that owners treat as a platform: out of the box it disappoints, and with a better grinder, basket, portafilter or steam wand it becomes a capable machine that can run for years. That upgrade path is the case for it. The case against is everything the upgrades are compensating for: a stock setup that a long-time owner says cannot make good espresso, a two-cup button that pours far too much, and a steam wand that draws more complaints than any other part.
Compact thermoblock espresso machine with a 15-bar pump, a 51 mm portafilter and a manual steam wand.
Practical pick with a category-specific lean
The positive reports describe a long-lived machine that improves sharply with upgraded parts.
In stock form the basket, portafilter, preset shot volume and steam wand draw the complaints, along with a few machines that stopped working. • Total evidence snippets: 17 • Updated Oct 12, 2026

After a descale, one Arte began steaming very loudly and too strongly, pulling air into the milk even when its owner did not intend it and heating the milk faster. Another Arte's wand suddenly started blasting powerful steam that only burns the milk without foaming it, and clearing the tip with the cleaning pin did not help. A third refused to enter descaling mode, flashing what its owner identified as an overheating warning that waiting and a reset to default settings did not clear. On the positive side, an Arte paired with a DF54 grinder has been fine for three years of one person's daily drinks. If you are choosing the Arte for milk drinks, buy where a steam fault would be covered.

The praise is about longevity and potential, and much of it describes modified machines rather than stock ones.
Are most people doing things wrong? from my understanding a good espresso is mostly determined by the grinder. but I swear every other post here is some 1000/2000+ bucks machine paired with a df54 I got a baratza esp and a dedica 685 with a rancilio wand and I'd like to keep upgrading it instead of spending money on a machine. is everybody else just dumb or something? Used delonghi dedica piston machine, if I am back at the days, I would keep it and just get a kingrinder k6 for consistency. … Delonghi dedica is a pretty capable device.
my current set up is the Delonghi Dedica Arte and DF54 grinder. This set up has been fine since I've been living on my own … I've been in the hobby for 3 years now
I have used dedica for 10 years … Its a workhorse … Very easy to fix if it has any issues, i have changed literally everything in mine.
Most critical reports concern the stock brewing setup and the steam wand; a few are breakdowns.

Please recommend me a beginner espresso machine [£200-300]! I recently bought the delonghi dedica duo on sale for £199, however after three months it has broken (stuck on steam function, refuses to brew coffee) and I'm trying to get a full refund out of the company. I'm therefore searching for another espresso machine in the £200-300 range, which I know is tight but I'm a student. My main requirements are that it's not too big (limited counter space) and in my budget, I pretty much only drink iced lattes or iced
Delonghi Dedica Arte not descaling Have tried descaling multiple times following the process as advised in the Delonghi guide. * After holding the steam button for 10 seconds and letting the lights flash simultaneously, I got to turn the steam dial open and get this flashing happening. * I’ve researched and can see it’s due to overheating, tried to turn off and leave for 30 mins - 1 hour. Still doesn’t fix anything * Have tried to reset to default settings and do again, nothing. I did try an alternative descaler
Should I upgrade my old delonghi dedica or buy a bambino? [budget 400e] Hi, I posted a few days ago asking advice regarding a good beginner setup. What I didn't mention is that I got a delonghi dedica from my Mom, because she never used it. It's maybe 5 years old or so, but has been used very little. I tried it for a short bit but the inconsistency of the shots bothered me as well as the not so effective steaming wand. I went back to my aeropress that was more consistent. Now when I've deep dived into the topic
De-scaled machine and now can't steam good milk. Solution? I have a Delonghi dedica. It has an upgraded rancilio steam wand. I was at the stage of making very good textured milk. My artwork leaves alot to be desired (first pic), but the milk was good. Couple of days ago I descaled my machine and since then I cannot make good milk. You can see the texture is all wrong (second pic). I'm not doing anything else differently. What do you think is causing this and what could potential solutions be? Do I need to change m

Loud steaming after descaling? [Delonghi Dedica Arte 885] I recently descaled my Dedica Arte 885 machine, and have been having very loud steaming. It even feels like the steaming is too strong it’s introducing too much air into the milk even when I don’t intend to and it heats the milk quicker. This other thing I’m not sure about as I didn’t try with other beans, but I have the impression that water flow through the ground beans is too fast. I’ve been grinding much finer and also trying to fill the basket more.

I have used dedica for 10 years, upgraded to dual boiler this year. Its a workhorse but out of the box it is not capable of good espresso. It needs a pressure valve change and a new portafilter and basket.

Shots keep coming out way too long [De'Longhi Dedica] Getting into espresso with a Dedica and my shots keep over pouring. 14g in gave me 71g out in \~38s (using the 2cup button) way past the 1:2 ratio I'm aiming for. They come out pale and watery, more lungo than espresso. Is the preset 2-cup button just dispensing too much, or am I missing something? Should I be stopping the shot manually at weight? If so, how does the mechanics work? Is it just a preset water volume, or does it affect pump pressure? I want the

Products frequently compared alongside De'Longhi Dedica:
A Dedica owner who moved up calls the build, handling and feel worlds apart
Quick answers to the main review, complaints, buyer-fit, and comparison questions shoppers ask before choosing De'Longhi Dedica.
Yes. An owner who found the default water amount far too high changed it to give a 1:2 to 1:2.5 yield, and a beginner getting lungo-length shots from the two-cup button was considering stopping shots by weight instead. Either fixes the over-long preset.
The reports describe the symptom but not the cause. A used Dedica EC685 drips water from the steam nozzle whenever it makes espresso, and its owner suspects a gasket or the valve; another Dedica drips from the wand on every shot. Neither post reports a confirmed fix, so treat it as a valve or seal repair to investigate rather than normal behaviour.
It has happened, but no cause is confirmed. An owner with an upgraded Rancilio wand was making very good textured milk until a descale, after which the texture went wrong with nothing else changed; on a Dedica Arte, a descale was followed by steam that became too strong. Neither report includes a resolution.
Owners here run it with a DF54 and with a Baratza ESP, and a former owner says that, given the chance again, they would keep the Dedica and add a KinGrinder K6 for consistency rather than buy a Breville Bambino. A buyer pairing it with a Sage Smart Grinder Pro was struggling to pull a good shot, though they had also not yet fixed the over-long default shot volume. The common thread is that the grinder, not the machine, is where the first money goes.
